Eric Montford

Watching the world’s best athletes compete at international competitions is one of the most thrilling experiences. But without the support of the hundreds of volunteers who work hard behind the scenes, it would be not be possible to pull off these events.

Eric Montford is just one of the many volunteers who works behind the scenes. In preparation for volunteering at the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, Eric will work as an ice crew supervisor at the World Junior and Wheelchair Curling Championships which are fast approaching this February and March.

Eric was first introduced to the sport of curling by a friend and was “dragged to the rink and forced to curl.”  ”I thought it was stupid,” recalls Eric, “but it took only about two or three stones before I was hooked.” Eric is now a dedicated curler and a loyal supporter of the sport – he coaches his daughter’s curling team and his passion for the sport has seen him volunteer for over 30 years at his curling club where he learned how to make the “best possible curling ice” from the best ice technicians. He knows that curling requires many volunteers and he enjoys playing his part behind the scenes.

The love of the curling drew Eric to volunteering and volunteering has rewarded him with the great satisfaction of meeting new people, forging lasting friendships and knowing how to make quality ice. With Eric behind the scenes, it should be smooth sailing on the curling ice for all the athletes.
