About
Thank you for visiting the Pacific Coliseum (PAC) volunteer website. This website is dedicated to providing information and resources to volunteers for the Samsung ISU World Cup Short Track 2008/2009 event. Volunteers are essential to the success of short track speed skating events and in supporting Canadian athletes to achieve podium results. As Bryce Holbech, sport manager for short track speed skating says, “You can’t run an event like this without our volunteers!â€
The Samsung ISU World Cup Short Track 2008/2009 event is one of 18 Sport Events. Sport Events are major national or international events, such as World Cups or World Championships that will take place in the Vancouver and Whistler area in 2008 and 2009. In collaboration with the winter International Sport Federations, the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC) will be testing operations at these events. Each sport discipline will be tested at least once leading up to the 2010 Winter Games.
“This is our chance to prove to the International Skating Union that we are ready for the Winter Games,†said Bryce. “We only have a limited number of opportunities to make sure we have the best ice we can for the athletes, and that we have all the right people in place to help the athletes achieve their ultimate dreams.â€
With 150 short track athletes from up to 25 nations coming to the Pacific Coliseum for the World Cup, recruitment of a passionate volunteer team to work in a wide variety of areas at the event is well underway. Each volunteer is crucial to the success of the World Cup event and will help ensure athletes will be competing in a spectacular environment where they can perform at their best.
“Volunteers will see the best athletes in the world competing in one of the highest level events possible,†said Bryce. “You will see athletes that are moving at exhilarating speed, moving between each other in the tightest areas and leaning in the corners at impossible angles."
“We have the best of the best athletes fulfilling their dreams, so it’s only fitting that we have volunteers who put that same effort into what they do to help!â€
