Volunteer Profiles
Kay Robertson
For some volunteers, the Hockey Canada Cup will be the first time they have seen the game of sledge hockey up close. But for many others, this is not the case. Kay Robertson has been volunteering at sledge events since 1992.
At her first introduction to the game, Kay was hooked.
“I love the sport. It is exciting and I have so much respect for all the athletes who play sledge hockey. It takes so much physical ability, discipline, focus and guts.â€
Kay was equipment manager for the US national team until 1997. She volunteered at the Paralympic Games in Nagano, Salt Lake City and Torino. She has been at all the World Cup tournaments since 1994 and she continues to volunteer for most major tournaments in the US.
As a volunteer for the Hockey Canada Cup, Kay hopes to “make more people aware of this great sport and of the athletes who inspire me to be a better person.â€
And to those volunteers who will be experiencing sledge hockey for the first time, Kay has this to say, “Being a volunteer for sledge hockey will change your life. As a volunteer, I have always felt I was there to do whatever I could to help the athletes so they could focus on the game. You are there to serve and [to] have fun.â€
